Company Profile
The Concise Business Language Institute (Pty) Ltd is spearheaded by dynamic professionals who endeavour to empower individuals in the business world through language development. The Concise Business Language Institute (Pty) Ltd is an education and training provider for small, medium and large companies in various economic sectors around the country.

The core business of The Concise Business Language Institute (Pty) Ltd is language and business communication training (written and verbal). We are acutely aware of how crucial language proficiency is to attain credibility in the business world since we are judged by how we write and how we speak. English is not the first language of the majority of the South African labour force, yet it is the lingua franca of business. This fact underscores the need for language development and empowerment.

Language acquisition and writing proficiency are complex skills to develop and thus it requires careful thought when designing learning materials. All our training is co-operative and aims to minimise the gap between formal tuition and job function. Our training is designed to enable independent thought, communication and action in the work environment. Our training materials have been adapted, as far as is necessary, to reflect the actual circumstances which characterise the communicative needs of the company. Writing development is not one-off, nor can good writing be developed on an ad hoc basis. Good business writing comes about through a process and through practise.

He subsequently lectured in Graphic Design as Head of Applied Design, Port Elizabeth Technikon, before returning to Wits University as
Head of the Central Graphics Service, where he headed up a team responsible for design and production of Teaching and Research support material for lecturers and researchers needing to communicate - often vague, abstract, academic concepts –through the media of OHTs, Powerpoint presentations, Poster Conferences, Publications etc.

Colin’s extensive experience in educational media, (lecturing, teaching, consulting and doing) has naturally led to his application of these skills and approaches to what is now called Information Graphics, used when information needs to be explained clearly, quickly and simply, such as in signs, maps, journalism, technical writing, and education. He has delivered papers and run workshops on the design and use of visual material in a variety of learning environments, and his company, Mediate Communications, provides solutions for visual communication needs.
